Smokin Guns

Adam Lane has set a pace in the amateur bodybuilding world that is hard to keep up
with, and he’s got the guns to prove it.
Recently, Lane traveled to Atlanta where he competed in the NPC (National
Physique Committee) Georgia Bodybuilding Championships. After winning his weight
class and the overall a month ago at the Southern Isles Bodybuilding Show in
Savannah, Lane poised himself for the show in Atlanta, winning his weight class and
the overall Mr. Georgia Championship.
“It took it a week or so to settle in,” says Lane. “In pre-judging I knew I had
my weight class won, so I started looking to the other weight divisions to see who I
was going to have to beat.”
He knew his competition would be from the eventual winner of the light
heavyweight class. Lane has never placed lower than second in any bodybuilding show
he has participated, and Atlanta would be no different.
“I never enter a competition unless I think I can win it,” says Lane. “I would
hate to break my record of finishing either first or second now.”
His streak continued.
Lane’s physique and symmetry was far superior to that of nearest competition
which garnered him not only first in his weight class and first overall, but he was
also awarded a trophy for best arms. The win also qualified him for the Nationals in
Fort Lauderdale this November. The event is also a pro qualifier.
It’s been 14 years since Lane competed in his first event. In 1995, when he
was only 17 years old, he competed in the Southeastern Bodybuilding Championships in
Savannah. He took second place at the event, and it was then Lane knew he wanted to
pursue bodybuilding.
Most people know Lane as a successful bodybuilder from Pembroke. Others know
him as a single father of two children. He also operates a crane at Georgia Ports,
and when he’s not at work, or with his kids he is usually at Blackcreek Fitness
training clients. Somewhere in between he finds time to train himself while
maintaining a healthy diet.
Schedules are important in a bodybuilders world, but Lane seems to juggle four
different schedules with ease. His hobby is different in nature when compared to his
life, work and bodybuilding, though it is competitive in nature. To say Adam Lane
had guns would be an understatement. In the bodybuilding world, big arms are often
referred to as “guns”. So obviously Lane has guns, but he also has guns.
In the minimal spare time he does have, Lane builds tactical guns and takes
them to target shooting competitions. “I was looking through a magazine one day and
I thought it would be neat to build a gun,” says Lane.
He has been competing in target shooting events now for five years. This year,
he has built three new guns which includes a tactical shotgun and an AR10. He then
takes his guns to a target range outside of Pembroke, owned by Ed Bradley, to test
fire and practice his target shooting plans.
On Saturdays each month, he travels to competitions around the area as well as
throughout the state. “Besides bodybuilding, shooting is one of my favorite things
to do,” says Lane.
He has also found time to build a 16-foot by 16-foot model replica of the
ports. Housed in a separate building, specifically built to house the model, Lane
has spent countless hours on his work of art. He has even garnered some attention
for his creation when the Ports ran an article in their magazine about the model
replica. “It was just an idea I had, and as I started working on it I really got
into it.”
Lane is excited about his opportunity to compete in the Nationals in Fort
Lauderdale this November. If his streak continues, Lane will soon be a name heard at
the pro level.
No matter the outcome, Lane is definitely one of the most talented sculptors in
the area. From his physique to his guns and the model replica of the Ports, Adam
Lane has created a life of building awesome works.
